Personal --
I am Sarah Crabtrey. I was raised and currently reside in Kingwood, TX. I live here with my husband Zachary, my two children Kacie(7F) and Caiden(6M), and our white cat, Princess. I am a social-being and often have booked weekends either out with friends or doing stuff with the family. I have interests in Computer Science, Math, east-asian tv-dramas, K-Pop, painting and drawing, make-up artistry, learning languages, and cooking. As for learning languages, my most recent one I have been studying (with a personal tutor) is Thai! It has been a challenge and it has been really fun to learn.
In my free time I can usually be found taking my daughter to dance, cleaning house, shopping, watching YouTube or tackling one of my many interests and hobbies. I really like to travel and one of my biggest goals in life is to travel as much as possible!
Professional --
My professional experience can be summed up in the phrase "Jack of all trades, master of one". The "one" being customer service. My professional experience has mainly been in food and retail. I've worked for Luby's Cafeteria, Domino's Pizza, Cousins Main Lobster Food Truck, H-E-B, and currently as a Guest Teacher for Humble ISD. I cannot say that I live by "the customer is always right" motto but I do believe that customers want to be heard, that their concerns are valid and (within reason) can always be addressed in an appropriate manner.
My work demeanor is an open one. I choose to be in a good mood each day that I work. I am a natural leader and instructor. I learn things very quickly and need to have a rigorous understanding of policies and systems as soon as possible. I find that working smarter and not harder is the best choice when it comes to work. I am a loyal employee and keep great relationships with all past employers.
Academic --
ABL is a fun acronym that I relate to heavily. Always Be Learning is a philosophy that I want to carry with me forever and hope to pass that on to my children as well. I was an ~okay~ student in K-12. When college age hit and I was paying my own tuition from Lone Star College: that is when my true appreciation for education was born. I attended Lone Start College from January 2009 - January 2018. Quite a considerable amount of time spent to get an Associate's degree. I flip-flopped a few times, at some times I put work first, and other times...I was adding to my family! Eventually, I made the decision to work towards a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science.
After many pros & cons lists, I landed at enrolling at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. Their Computer Science program could entirely be online! Great for a stay-at-home mom with little ones at home. It was in this program that I learned most about academic accountability and integrity. There were no professors watching over you. There weren't any attendance issues that I had to worry about. Just my grade.
It wasn't easy going from in-person community college classes to fully-online classes for a University, but I was able to push through distractions and managed to learn a whole new skill and still make a 3.7 GPA when I graduated. I say it was an all online degree, which is true, that was possible, but there was one class that I was so interested in that I drove an hour and a half every Thursday to attend and that was Artificial Intelligence. It was fun to be challenged on the spot in a classroom and meet my peers and professors!
This degree program focuses heavily on Mathematics such as Calculus I-III, Applied Statistics, and Discrete Mathematics. In these classes, I found my true calling and that is to share the wonders of math. When I was in middle school I was placed in a high-average math class. That was the first time I felt like I could be seen, I could shine. It was from that point that I knew that math was my "thing". When people say they don't like math, I can never relate.
